Cell Reprogramming for Aging

As we age, the brain gets less efficient and forgetfulness increases by leaps and bounds. Acquiring Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinsonism is not the case always but certain other degenerative proteins cite actions that decrease the brain efficiency. It is the cholinergic and dopaminergic neurons that begin the deleterious effect on the memory. Since the cholinergic neurotransmitters govern the actions at the basal ganglia of the brain, the neurodegenerative changes through normal aging begin their action.

Along with aging, the brain cells start being damaged and give rise to various mental disorders. No such medication has been invented that may completely cure the following ailments but delay the process. Similarly, aging can never be stopped but the consequences can be slowed down.

In the article Gene Therapy and Cell Reprogramming For the Aging Brain: Achievements and Promise the author has discussed aging and the effects of cholinergic and dopaminergic agonists and antagonists in a vast perspective. The article also features modification of cells with age and the mal-effects on diabetic patients. The journal Current Gene Therapy focuses on the gene and cell therapy. Moreover, the research tells much about the experimental evidence supporting the neuroprotective relevance of these and related factors in the aging brain.

Hepatitis and Interferon

Hepatitis is a viral disease that remains in the body for longer durations and even lifetime, depending upon the viral genotype.  It exists as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, G and H. Hepatitis B and C are treated by interferon at variant doses in every individual. There is a slight chance from recovery from Hepatitis B but it has a vaccine. Hepatitis C is treatable yet chances of recurrence are strong because it does not have a vaccine.
Interferon has a binding affinity with the cellular proteins that in turns kills the viruses despite of their various shapes which may not be identified otherwise. The Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Interferon was studied with and without combination of ribavirin, administered between the range of 800g – 1400g thrice a week or daily. Sustained Virologic Response (SVR) and Rapid Virologic Response (RVR) exposure- response were modeled using logistic regression. The author of the article Population Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics of Albinterferon Alfa-2b in Patients Treated for Hepatitis C Virus Genotype 2/3 has detailed review on the genotype research and a comparison of efficacy of combined or individual regimens.

Also, Bentham Science Publishers has much more details on the viral hepatitis topics in their open access journals.

The Impact Of Sleep Apnea On Human Health:

Majority of people experience snoring issues while sleeping. In some cases, it can occur due to nasal blockages which result into oral grunts and groans. Similarly, some people suffer from breathing impairments or occasional exchange of gases during sleep. This is known as Sleep Apnea. "Sleep apnea is a common disease that has a powerful impact on public health because it greatly increases the risk of strokes, cancers and mortality from any cause," said lead author Nathaniel S. Marshall, PhD, senior lecturer in clinical trials at the University of Sydney in Australia.

Marshall, PhD, senior lecturer in clinical trials at the University of Sydney in Australia.Sleep Apnea can be classified into three types:
Ø  Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
Ø  Central Sleep Apnea (CSA)
Ø  Complex Sleep Apnea (Amalgamation of the above two)

The OSA can take place due to a physical obstruction in the respiratory tract, whereas, the main cause of CSA is the lack of respiratory effort. The combination of both of them is reported in a limited number of cases.

Despite of the fact that Sleep Apnea can happen to any age group or gender, this condition is more common in females. One of the Bentham Science Publishers articles “Influence of Gender on C-Reactive Protein, Fibrinogen, and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate in Obstructive Sleep Apnea.” covers all the details related to protein bindings with fibrinogens and erythrocytes sedimentation rates. This research also provides ample information explaining the systemic inflammatory markers relating it with female physiological activity which supports OSA more in females than males.

Cat Bite- A source of bacteria and several infections

Cat Bites are more serious and dangerous as compared to a dog bite. The research analysis has shown that 1 out of 3 patients wounded by cat bites died in hospital while two third of them had to go through surgical treatment.

This is because of the fact that the cats usually carry various types of bacteria in their mouth which causes infection in tissues, resulting into blood poisoning, also known as septicemia. The most common symptoms of these wound fissures at an early stage include flu and fever and under rare circumstances can lead to patient`s death if the medical treatment is not taken out at the appropriate time.

Several safety measures should be taken in the above case in order to prevent the infection from spreading to surrounding tissues and joints. Cleaning the wound is the first and prime requirement, but scrubbing should be avoided. It is also important to control and stop bleeding by seeking medical attention through a physician.

Bentham Science Publishers is a remarkable name in the STM publishing industry. There are a number of Bentham publications on infection and infectious diseases, such as Anti-Infective Agents, Infectious Disorders-Drug Targets and Recent Patents on Anti-Infective Drug Discovery. Heavy Drinking:

The intake of excessive drinking can result in accelerated memory loss as well as mental decay. Premature Old Age can also be a symptom of heavy drinking.
Men who consume more than two alcoholic drinks per day during their middle age may speed up the process of memory loss and premature old age up to six years.
Research has deduced that middle-aged men are at higher risk of mental decay, because they are involved in heavy drinking for many years.

Google Lenses for Diabetes

For diabetic patients tired with having to use pin prick blood tests every now and then to monitor their blood sugar levels, the good news is that Google has invented a novel pair of contact lenses to keep their glucose levels in check. These contacts come fitted with special sensors, minute transistors and a tiny hair-thin antenna to observe the sugar levels through the tears of the diabetes patient. The readings are then wirelessly transmitted to a handheld monitor device.

Unmanageable blood sugar levels in diabetic patients are hazardous to health and more often than not lead to kidney, eyes and heart problems. Many patients have to administer pin pricks, sometimes more than 10 times in a single day in order to keep an eye on their glucose levels, as is evident from the case of Michael Vahradian, who finds it rather cumbersome to use them. Google lens, which will be available in markets in about 5 years, will revolutionize the way diabetes blood sugar levels are monitored and will ease the process for millions around the world.
Google is best known as a search engine and advertising company. However, it has launched a number of other useful wearable products, like Google Glass and a special pair of glasses fitted with cameras and a small computer display. Although, research on contact lenses for monitoring blood sugar levels started many years ago at the University of Washington, it was Google really which made the project a reality. The man behind the invention, Brian Otis expresses his opinion:
“You can take it to a certain level in an academic setting, but at Google we were given the latitude to invest in this project.”
The Chairperson of the board of the American Diabetes Association is pleased with the efforts of the researchers and scientists who are working tirelessly to come up with novel and better solutions for patients suffering from diabetes. Readers can refer to Current Diabetes Reviews by Bentham Science Publishers for the latest developments in the field of diabetes and its cures. A Bentham eBook, Epidemiology of Type 2 Diabetes is also a useful guide on diabetes epidemiology.

A journal podcaston titled:“Fish Oil has Beneficial Effects on Behavior Impairment and Oxidative Stress in Rats Subjected to a Hepatic Encephalopathy Model” by Dr. AneteC.Ferraz
Here’s the Abstract:
Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a severe neuropsychiatric complication of liver failure, in which there is injury to brain cells, particularly neurons and glia. Brain cells and their function are greatly influenced by omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, essential components of cell membrane phospholipids in the brain that are crucial to normal function. In summary, FO protected against spatial memory deficits and oxidative stress caused by HE in rats subjected to liver lesion due to TAA intoxication. Further studies are necessary to understand the mechanism underlying FO behaviors in rats subjected to encephalopathy.

Speech and Brain Activity:

According to a recent research, it is concluded that speech, head injuries, stroke, brain and communication disorders are treatable as brain covers both sides of the brain. This study reveals that at a time only one side of the brain is used and there is a direct relationship between speech and brain activity.
The researchers focused on various parts of the brain during speech. The participants were asked to repeat non- words like “pob” and “kig.” This experiment brought to light that these non-words trigger brain activities which allowed the researchers to separate speech from language.
The results obtained through this research helped in the better understanding of the speech generation within the brain and also led to innovative techniques for the treatment of speech related disorders.
Bentham Science Publishers is a remarkable name in the STM Publishing industry, having journals and eBooks on various genres including; natural science, information technology, medicine etc. Bentham Science Publishers has an impact factor journal named “Neuroscience and Biomedical Engineering” which can assist researchers for additional research on the subject.

Hypertension

Hypertension, which is referred to as high blood pressure, is a common condition in which the arteries have constant high blood pressure.  The Blood pressure is basically the force that is pushing up against the vessel walls of blood.
Each time the heart beats, it pushes the blood to the whole body via arteries. The more high the pressure, the tougher the heart has to pump.
Hypertension is a disease which can further lead to damaged organs and various illnesses that include heart failure or stroke. The normal consistent blood pressure level should be 120/80, where 120 signifies systolic pressure (the highest pressure in arteries) whereas 80 symbolizes diastolic (the minimum pressure in the arteries). However, if the blood pressure exceeds from 80/120 to 139/89, then it is called pre-hypertension. If it reaches to 140/90 or more than that, it is considered as high blood pressure or Hypertension.
There are many factors that can be highly linked with this condition which includes; obesity, smoking, diabetes, lack of any physical activity, deficiency of vitamin D, stress, aging and also it comes through genes.
Bentham Science Publishers is a reputable name in the publishing industry, it has more than 160 journals and a variety of eBooks. Current Hypertension Reviews publishes frontier reviews, original research articles and guest edited thematic issues on all the latest advances on hypertension and its related areas e.g. nephrology, clinical care, and therapy. Dyslexia- A Neurological Disorder

Dyslexia is a disorder which is characterized by difficulty in reading and learning. This is a most common learning disorder found in children that hinders the ability of a person to read, learn, spell, write and even sometimes in speaking. This is disease which attacks the kids and is persist throughout the life. To reach the favorable outcomes, treatment must be taken o time because it can get severe. The severity of Dyslexia differs from mild to severe.
Dyslexia in children is caused by the mutilation in the brain’s capability to interpret the images delivered from the eyes and ears into comprehensible language. It is not because of the hearing and vision problems, but it is due to the brain damage, psychological retardation or lack of intellect.
Dyslexia may go undiagnosed in the early years of schooling because the symptoms are vague to determine if it is Dyslexia or a kid is not willing to go to school and is showing signs like these. The common symptoms includes, the reversal of number and letter, difficulty in copying work from the board, difficulty in playing organized games and sports, difficulty of distinguishing left and right. Whereas, the aural problems linked to dyslexia includes, difficulty of remembering what he is hearing, recalling problems, words get funny because they miss parts of words and kipping whole sentences.

What are Immunodeficiency Disorders?

To get a better understanding about immune disorders, you need to know the basics of how exactly immune system works. The immune system consists of various organs including, bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes and spleen. These organs release lymphocytes that are classified as T cells and B cells.  These cells fight against the antigens such as viruses, bacteria, cancer cells and other harmful body fluids. Both B cells and T cells play their part in fighting off the bacteria out of the body through killing the virus and by producing antibodies.
Immunodeficiency is a disorder that affects the body immune system thus prevents the ability of the body to fight diseases and infections. This disorder makes a person more vulnerable of catching bacterial infections and viruses. Immune disorders are generally acquired or innate. Usually, the acquired immune disorder is characterized as secondary disorder whereas; the congenital immune disorder is called primary.
There are various factors that can make an immune system weak, for instance; the body fluids such as sperm of blood from the body of an individual affected with HIV can cause AIDS. The removal of spleen from your body can lead to a weaker immune system.
The treatment varies according to the condition of individuals. It commonly includes the antibody and antibiotics replacement. There are several drugs that are used to treat the infections caused by this disorder; the drugs must be taken according to the prescription.

Dangers of Carbon Monoxide:

This winter season is seen to be the coldest winter the world has observed after a long period of time. Temperatures in the next few years are also expected to drop more. The people using heaters need to very vigilant because the heaters give off a gas which is commonly known as the silent killer.

Carbon monoxide is present inside offices and houses because of the usage of heaters. It is a colorless and odorless gas with a chemical formula of CO. One might not be aware of its presence and the dangers it causes. The major symptoms of excess intake of CO include nausea and headache which is often misconcepted as a symptom of flu or viral fever.

Continuous exposure of CO can also result into various acute symptoms such as chest pain, vomiting, confusion and serious medical conditions.

Breathing Problems: COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

COPD is one of the major causes of disability in the United States, and the third largest cause of death as well. There are millions of people who are suffering from this disease. Although, there is a huge percentage of individuals who may have the disease and may not even know about it.
COPD is usually diagnosed in older or middle-aged adults. This disease is not contagious.

COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) causes difficulty in breathing. COPD has two main types of chronic bronchitis and emphysema.  The cause of COPD is damage to the lungs by air pollution, chemical fumes or dust; however, cigarette smoking is the main reason for COPD.

Breathing is a process which causes air flow from airways and elastic air sacs. Breathing in causes air sacs to inflate like a small balloon, while breathing out causes them to deflate pushing the air out. In COPD, less air flows in and out of these airways because of inelasticity, wall of air sacs are destroyed, the walls become thick and inflamed, and airways become clogged because of mucus. Due to these reasons it becomes problematic for the patients to breathe.

This disease develops slowly; symptoms often worsen gradually limiting your capacity to perform routine activities. Chronic COPD may even prevent one from doing basic activities like walking, sleeping, or eating. Common symptoms include coughing with mucus, shortness of breath while doing physical activity, wheezing and chest tightness.

Diagnosis of COPD involves lung functions test, imaging test, blood test. COPD has no cure yet; doctors have failed to repair the damage caused to the airways and lungs. Although, certain treatments have shown positive results including medicines, oxygen therapy, surgery or lungs transplant. This disease can be avoided by following a healthy lifestyle and quitting smoking.

Bentham Science aims to publish eBooks in all major areas of technology, social sciences, medicine and humanities. Their eBooks provide professionals, corporate researchers, academicians, graduates and under-graduates globally with the most contemporary information in their subject areas of interest. Bentham Science continues to publish books in every field. A few new eBooks are going to appear under the Bentham Science name, 'Lung Macrophages in Health and Disease'by Sandra Hodge.
The eBook discusses lung’s reaction to injury, the alveolar macrophage, maintenance of lung structure, cancer biology and many more. Along with essentials to understand the development of novel therapeutic approaches for acute and chronic disease.

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)

Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus or MERS-CoV is a flu epidemic in the Middle East. This virus is highly contagious and deadly. It is basically an acute respiratory infection presenting as pneumonia.
MERS causes high fever, coughing, and pneumonia in humans. It affects animals as well, which is why it is recommended to avoid having close contact with farm animals and barn areas, where the virus has potentially been circulating.

In the last week of December, a case of an elderly man from Riyadh has been reported to have died from a confirmed MERS case. WHO announced five more people have been diagnosed with this lethal Middle East Respiratory Syndrome virus, bringing to a total of 176 cases, of which 75 have already died.
MERS is spreading gradually; most of the reported cases are in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, UAE, France, Oman, Tunisia, Germany, Spain Italy and Britain.

Furthermore, WHO directed general public to adhere to precautionary measures while visiting a barn or farm. Strict hygiene measures should be taken such as washing hands before and after touching the animals, and before eating food. Moreover, contact with sick animals should be avoided at all times.
